Delving into the Scarlet & Violet – Stellar Crown Set
The Scarlet & Violet – Stellar Crown is the seventh major set of the Paldea-themed era. It draws inspiration from Japan’s Stellar Miracle and features a plethora of impressive cards, including Full Arts, Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares, and Gold Hyper Rares. Generously provided by The Pokémon Company International, we received an array of products, including a booster box, Elite Trainer Box, and Build & Battle Box, to provide an in-depth analysis of this exciting set. In this installment, we focus on the Booster Box.
Opening the Booster Box
A booster box comprises 36 packs, making it the ideal way to fully experience a new set. With so many packs, collectors can expect significant hits and make substantial progress in completing the set’s commons, uncommons, and holo-rares checklist. Here’s a summary of our haul:
– Pokémon ex: 4
– Tera Pokémon ex: 1
– ACE SPEC: 2
– Full Art Pokémon: 1
– Full Art Trainer: 1
– Illustration Rare: 3
– Special Illustration Rare: 0
– Hyper Rare Gold: 1
Reflecting on the Evolution of Pokémon TCG
Every time I open a Scarlet & Violet-era booster box, I feel fortunate to be a lifelong Pokémon TCG collector. Thinking back to the Base Set days when I was in junior high, pulling a holographic card was the ultimate thrill. Even a few years ago, a single Alternate Art could define a booster box, with many boxes lacking a Secret Rare altogether. Now, the presence of six Secret Rares, along with Illustration Rares and Hyper Rare Gold cards appearing in the Reverse Holo slot, greatly enhances the pack opening experience. Although this evolution is characteristic of the entire era, not just Scarlet & Violet – Stellar Crown, it was a prevalent thought throughout this opening as we uncovered hit after hit.
Final Thoughts: A Set Worth Exploring
Overall, this set offers a delightful experience. It marks a transitional phase similar to Scarlet & Violet – Paradox Rift, which introduced Paradox Pokémon. The new Stellar Pokémon ex brings a refreshing gameplay change for deck-builders and a visual treat for collectors. In my Elite Trainer Box opening, I noticed how the rainbow borders of Stellar ex cards appeared more striking on Full Art ex cards compared to standard ones. You can witness these Stellar borders on the Terapagos ex above.
In conclusion, this set serves as a solid introduction with captivating art and exciting Pokémon. While it may not emerge as a fan-favorite expansion of the era, it’s undoubtedly a set worth exploring, whether you’re a player or collector.
